The Denbury Factor
Wednesday October 25, 2006
4 day blog breaks can yield a wealth of unexpected non-blog activity. Firstly, anyone who knows me even slightly has probably already been bored by my work this year on the family tree. But I had an exciting find the other day. On route to Cornwall, I decided to take an unplanned detour into Denbury in Devon.

Don't You Just Love Theme Parks
Wednesday October 11, 2006
First let me say that we had to go to Legoland last weekend. My wife had received free tickets from using her Tesco Club Card. Free and about to expire. So we had no choice but to go.
I don’t mind going on rides at theme parks, it’s just the endless walking around and queuing that wears me down. And the unnecessary warnings. Such as ‘this ride might be unsuitable if you’re slightly timid’ or ‘you will now queue for two hours’.
Insomnia Part 2
Tuesday October 10, 2006
Kept awake last night by the wind and rain and the intermittent sounds of music coming through the wall. I hope to God we don’t get any more trouble from the tenants next door. But I digress.
Realising sleep wasn’t coming, I started to dig around in the upstairs room and pulled out a largish folder that contained drawings by my Dad. And so, today, a new header for this site. I was getting fed up with the old header and I’ve had the idea to change the picture regularly. It could be a drawing or painting from me, or one I’ve found elsewhere. I’ll always give credit, so here’s to KW Lang!
Insomnia Part 1
Saturday October 7, 2006
Firstly, it’s the piano that keeps me awake at night. Not the sound of distant piano playing, but me worrying about piano playing. My daughter is learning the piano and, helping her with her practice, I am finding it hard. My wife says “it isn’t hard. It’s a course for seven year olds”, but she keeps her distance.
What's the Worst Job You've Ever Had?
Friday October 6, 2006
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had? Hmmm, something about Winston Churchill springs to mind whenever this question crops up. I’m not thinking about careers here (not that assisting Mr Churchill in this manner is an enviable career). It’s too depressing for people to suddenly pause and think “I’ve worked in this bank for 20 years. Yes, it is the worst job I’ve ever had.” This is more about temporary jobs, or jobs you left after two weeks when you realised the enormity of your bad decision.
